Berry Patriotic Trifle



Here's a dessert recipe for your Fourth of July gathering - it looks so fancy, but it's so EASY!  It's best to make this several hours in advance so it can set as you refrigerate it.

Ingredients
Angel food cake torn into chunks
Cherry Pie Filling
Fresh or Frozen Blueberries (thawed)
Cool Whip
Chopped pecans or walnuts



Notice I didn't include the size or volume of the ingredients? That's because you can make as little or as much of this as you would like. You can start with as little as a pint of blueberries, a big can of cherry pie filling, an angel food loaf and a tub of Cool Whip. If you're using a big trifle container like the one shown above, you will need several cans, a quart of blueberries, a couple of big tubs of Cool Whip and several angel food cakes.

First, tear the angel food cake into chunks and mix them with Cool Whip.


From there, it's all about layering - a layer of cake mixed with Cool Whip, a layer of blueberries and a layer of cherry pie filling. Repeat those layers to fill whatever container you are using.  When you get to the top add the chopped nuts on top.

If you don't like cherries, you can use strawberries and glaze.  You can also whip cream cheese into the Cool Whip if you want a slightly richer taste.
